CORNYVAL???? No need to look up this spelling in a dictionary, as you won't find it there at all. Cornyval is the name of an event that is about to celebrate its 38th consecutive year, starting Thursday, Apr 28th and runs through Sunday, May 1st, on the festival grounds located on Leslie Road, just off of Highway 16 in Helotes.

Cornyval began in the 1960s as a way for Helotes non-profit organizations to raise money. Additionally it funds scholarships awarded to court winners in the Miss Helotes Scholarship Pageant. The HFA sponsors a traveling parade float, which travels throughout South Texas representing the city of Helotes. May 15th - Anhalt (www.anhalthall.com) - (3rd Sunday of May and 3rd Sunday of October) - Traditional semi-annual "Family Dinner and Dance" to celebrate the Spring and Fall Harvest.  German Polka Band plays 1:00 pm ~ 5:00 pm culminating in the traditional "Grand March".  A big name country western band starts around 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm. The "Anhalt" Germania Farmers Verein Dancehall is a Texas Landmark in the heart of the Texas hill country. 

  • 11:00 AM the doors will be Open
  • 12:00 PM All you can eat Family Style Meal begins
           - The meal is a sit down family style which is all you can eat. Pot
             roast, German potato salad, green peas, sauerkraut, peaches,
             bread and tea or coffee are included in the meal.

THIS EVENT IS IN THE FALL!!! The Complex is one of the nicest on the Island. These are two bedroom condos. Who gets the bedrooms and who sleeps on the roll away beds is usually decided by who gets there first! A $25.00 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT IS DUE UPON ENTERING YOUR NAME ON THE RSVP LIST. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER YOUR NAME ON THE RSVP LIST WITHOUT PAYING YOUR DEPOSIT. Checks will be made out to "Lamar Schulz" and mailed to 3433 Whisper Bluff, Cibolo, TX 78108. The next payment will be due on June 15, 2005. Further details will follow. Each of our twelve condos has two bedrooms, two roll away beds, a complete kitchen, a washer & dryer, and all the pots, pans and dishes needed to cook and eat in your condo. We've reserved 15 condos.  Call or make your reservations early

Join us for a great weekend of fun in the sun by day and dining and dancing by night. We will stay at the beautiful Port Royal Ocean Resort on the beach.

There will be 4 people of your choice per condo. The condos are big, with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and a large living/dining room area. There is a full kitchen with all the modern conveniences and a balcony overlooking the ocean.

The tropical grounds are beautiful with a vast multilevel pool with waterfalls, hot-tubs, water slide, even two swim-up bars.

Drive up Friday after work. Take I37 South to Corpus Christi. Exit at Hwy 358 toward Padre Island and follow it to the Hwy 22 East exit on the left. Merge onto South Padre Island Drive and follow it across the high bridge onto Padre Island. Turn left on Hwy 361 (at the sign that says "Port Aransas"). Go about 11 miles and Port Royal will be on your right. Tell them your name at the guard office to get in (your name will be on the list) and go to the main office to check in. Check in time Friday is 4:00 PM. They will ask for a credit card in case there are any room charges. Hint: It's easier at checkout if you don't have any room charges. Checkout time is Noon Sunday.

Saturday you can play at the pool and the beach. In nearby Port Aransas, there are many fun shops. Saturday night there are several great places to eat in Port Aransas. Everything in Port A is very casual. Shorts and flip flops are normal dinner dress. We'll go dancing at Sharkey's after dinner.

Bring stuff for breakfast, lunch and snacks and your beverages of choice. Bring a chair and towel for the beach. Sunscreen & hat are helpful as well.

Cost is $95 per person. Make checks payable to Single Friends.

Club Outing to PORT ROYAL on Padre Island. Arrangements have been made for a fun weekend at Port Royal on Padre Island in Corpus Christi, Texas.  South Texas weather is still very hot at this time of year, but a lot more comfortable than July!

hotel.jpg (23680 bytes)The cost of the condos varies per night for a poolside or beach side unit. These units are 2 bedroom, 2 bath units; the master bedroom (which is huge) has a king bed and the other bedroom has 2 twin beds. There is also a sleeper sofa in each condo.  See room layouts.

There are only a few poolside units available, so if you are interested  please contact the Club POC above. They have several units reserved but a credit card is required (first night's lodging will be charged to card in case of cancellation) to make the reservation.
 

boardwalk.gif (18616 bytes)We will meet around the pool and on the beach during the day and on Saturday night we will have a dinner and party of some type with everyone sharing the costs. So, get some friends together, give your POCt a call and book your condo. They will also keep a list of people who want to go but don't have enough for a full condo.

Update on Port Royal  - The Port Royal weekend is also the big Bayfest celebration in Corpus Christi Sept 30 - Oct 2nd. Its a great outdoor festival on the water front downtown. Lots of live music and I'm sure a beer booth or two.
If there are any runners in the group, there is also a 5k and 15k on Saturday morning.
