is one of the oldest, most popular events in the state, the Annual Poteet Strawberry
Festival is recognized as the largest agricultural festival in Texas as well as one of the
most exciting, most dynamic festivals in the Greater Southwest. The 100 acre site which is
located on Hwy. 16, 20 minutes south of San Antonio, offers free parking, clean public
restrooms, handicapped accessibility, complete RV facilities, and tent covered activities
during the fun filled Festival Weekend.
The Poteet Strawberry Festival® includes twelve areas of continuous, family entertainment
featuring concerts with nationally known Country / Western and Tejano stars, dancers,
gunslingers, clowns, puppets, regional bands, various contests, and rodeo performances.

CORNYVAL???? No need to look up this spelling in a dictionary, as you won't find it
there at all. Cornyval is the name of an event that is about to celebrate its 38th
consecutive year, starting Thursday, Apr 28th and runs through Sunday, May 1st,
on the festival grounds located on Leslie Road, just off of Highway 16 in Helotes.
Cornyval began in the 1960s as a way for Helotes non-profit organizations to raise money. Additionally it funds scholarships awarded to court winners in the Miss Helotes Scholarship Pageant. German Polka Band plays 1:00 pm ~ 5:00 pm culminating in the traditional "Grand March". A big name country western band starts around 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm. The "Anhalt" Germania Farmers Verein Dancehall is a Texas Landmark in the heart of the Texas hill country.

Club Outing to
PORT ROYAL on Padre Island. Arrangements have been made for a fun weekend at Port Royal on Padre Island in Corpus Christi, Texas. South Texas weather is still very hot at this time of year, but a lot more comfortable than July!
The cost of the condos
varies per night for a poolside or beach side unit. These units are 2 bedroom, 2 bath
units; the master bedroom (which is huge) has a king bed and the other bedroom has 2 twin
beds. There is also a sleeper sofa in each condo. See room layouts.
There are only a few poolside units
available, so if you are interested please contact the Club POC above. They have
several units reserved but a credit card is required (first night's lodging will be
charged to card in case of cancellation) to make the reservation.
We will meet around
the pool and on the beach during the day and on Saturday night we will have a dinner and
party of some type with everyone sharing the costs. So, get some friends together, give
your POCt a call and book your condo. They will also keep a list of people who want to go
but don't have enough for a full condo.
Update on Port Royal - The Port
Royal weekend is also the big Bayfest celebration in Corpus Christi Sept 30 - Oct 2nd. Its
a great outdoor festival on the water front downtown. Lots of live music and I'm sure a
beer booth or two.
If there are any runners in the group, there is also a 5k and 15k on Saturday morning.

Caution: Port Royal officials have accused us of having "too much" fun on past trips there.
